Health & Safety Alert: Rise in Pneumonia Cases
Peguis First Nation Health Centre
Attention Peguis First Nation Community Members,
The Peguis Health Centre has observed a concerning rise in cases of pneumonia in our community, including several recent deaths. Pneumonia is a serious illness that can affect individuals of all ages, particularly those with underlying health conditions, weakened immune systems, or chronic respiratory issues.
To help protect our community, we encourage everyone to follow these safe practices to prevent the spread of illness:
Safe Practices for Prevention
• Wash Hands Regularly: Use soap and water or an alcohol-based sanitizer.
• Cover Coughs and Sneezes: Use a tissue or your elbow to prevent the spread of droplets.
• Clean Common Surfaces: Disinfect frequently touched areas such as doorknobs, phones, and counters.
• Avoid Close Contact with Sick Individuals: Stay home if you feel unwell.
• Stay Up to Date on Vaccines: Ensure you and your family are vaccinated against pneumonia, influenza, and other preventable illnesses.
Recognize the Symptoms
Seek immediate medical attention if you or a loved one experiences:
• Persistent cough or difficulty breathing.
• Fever or chills.
• Chest pain or discomfort.
• Fatigue or confusion.
