Breaking New Ground at Naawi-Oodena!
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us at the FIRST Naawi-Oodena Urban Economic Development Zone Groundbreaking Ceremony!
History was witnessed this morning as Treaty One broke ground for the first time on Block A of Naawi-Oodena, located on the NE corner of Kenaston Blvd. & Taylor Ave. This transformative Urban Economic Development Zone is the future home of a vibrant community which will bring the vision of Treaty One to life as an economic powerhouse within its rightful and traditional territory.
“After 20 years of prolonged negotiations and courtroom disputes, initiating the first developments at Naawi-Oodena marks an historic moment not just for the Treaty One Nations, but for Canada as a whole,” says Treaty One Nation Chairperson and Brokenhead Ojibway Nation Chief Gordon BlueSky,. “This Urban Economic Development Zone is a testament to our shared commitments to sustainable growth and economic prosperity for our communities. The Oodena Gas Bar and Block A is only the beginning of what we envision as a vibrant and thriving economic hub for the years to come.”
With 130,000 sq. ft of commercial space and a dynamic 95,000 sq. ft commercial centre unfolding across 7.7 acres, Block A will become home to a hub of economic growth and community development for the Treaty One Nations and the Winnipeg community.
The Oodena Gas Bar, scheduled to be operational by summer 2024, is the very first cornerstone of this development and marks the beginning of a new era not just for Treaty One, but for First Nations across all of Canada.
Collaborating with Stantec, ODK Engineering, Century Petroleum, Northern Lights Petroleum, and PCL Construction, we're building a sustainable future, together.
